Not really. Hamas didn't win on the "We fucking hate Israel" agenda;
that's old news. Hamas won because Fatah was so bloody corrupt.
Basically, they were "anybody but Fatah" enough to win. So to think
that means that the Palestinian street supports their fanatacism is
ridiculous, and suicidally stupid.

I agree; I think that most of the Palestinian street has been sick of
this *** for years, and would like to just be allowed to go about
their lives. But I don't buy this idea that Hamas has changed - I
think they're as fanatical as ever, and I don't think it'll be long
before they show their true colors again.

Oh, I know Hamas hasn't changed. Their murderous anti-Semitic agenda
remains intact. I think, however, that while they hold power they'd
probably rather keep the actual offical Hamas-sponsored terrorism down.
They want terrorism, and Israeli blood, for sure, but maybe not just
now.

I think right now is perfect from their point of view. They're the
newly elected government, and half the world is already waiting to
point a finger at the US and Israel for not respecting that.

But that's just it, half the world *isn't* waiting to point the finger,
this time, because it's Hamas. Hell, even the EU and Canada cut their
funding.

They're
still riding the wave of support from their voters - they haven't had
time to screw up enough to lose that support.

Well, like I said originally, the support they have is the "not the
other guy" kind of support. Hamas may or may not know this, but I
think that they do.

The timing is perfect, and the sad fact is that anything Israel does -
save for taking back the whole fucking thing - will be a win for Hamas.

Actually, this time, I don't think so. The US urged "caution", and
nobody else has said much. Because the facts are that Hamas has pulled
out of the ceasefire agreement, continued to refuse to recognize Israel
even though Hamas is now a supposedly credibly government, and even
tacitly supported the kidnapping and threatened more. This is breaking
the rules: you're not supposed to do that that blatantly, otherwise the
world can't wink at you and pretend they didn't see!

Israel has the advantage, here, of doing what it's going to do anyway
and not giving a *** what the rest of the world thinks, which it tends
to do anyhow. This time, however, they might not get as hard a time
about it!
