The spear. Once you're past the point, he has nothing; those spikes
stay spiky.
Look at history; spears are a weapon used primarily en masse, and
primarily against charges. Swinging, slicing and chopping weapons are
the ones chosen for personal combat. Or maybe all of history is wrong,
and you've staggered upon enlightenment?
Do you really think Im going to let you get past my Speartip so easily?
I could stab at you at least once per second or faster, all within a
split seconds reaction time. (the return is what takes the seconds
time.. where as the thrust takes a fraction of a second)
As you come withing my range, I can easy outreach you, and out
manuver your slow swings. Picking you appart like swiss cheese. For every
missed swing, Id have time to poke you 10 times before you could recover.
If you try to sidestep, I simply retract slice, as well as step back, and
Im still able to re-attack before your even ready to swing.
And even if you are superhumanly very fast, I can slide the pole
backwards, so that my grip is very close to the blade. It then becomes
like a knife. That doesnt even consider that I can drop the spear,
and combat you with hand to hand before you can swing.
With a spear.. theres no recoop time.. its stab stab stab..
step and stab... Its direction changed so easily and quickly to match
and follow the opponent.
Nonsense. Have you trained any weapons stuff? You take the point
off-line and pass it. Why would other weapons even exist if the spear
were so deadly?
I have, and in propper hands, a spear is very dangerous. In fact,
the Japanese used the staff as a way to defeat swordsman. That was
what it was designed for.
Have you? Every time attacked, I had little trouble targeting
an area. And remember that a single stab could be very damaging
to fatal. Hell, all I have to do is target your weapon
holding hand.. and its game over.
Why other weapons? For one, a staff takes a lot of training to
become very good with. Next, in battle with many people arround,
its often easier to use a sword for close ranges. Esp for places
in tight quarters. And because you are attacked from so many differnt
angles... all at close ranges. Often warriors would have armour on...
which can cause it to be much harder to attack with a spear. Theres
more reasons.. Im just a bit fried tonight. Anyway, each weapon has
strenghts and weaknesses.
As for a kick.. imagine it thrown down the exact center of
your body. You cant turn it away. you have to sidestep
or back up.
Nonsense again. I thought you were a wing chun guy? What happens to
twisting the hips and turning off centreline? How can you be wrong
about things that are the basis of your own style?
The hip turn is too slow, and too shallow. A fast front snap kick can
come at you in less than 1 second.. and, you may not even be ready for it.
It takes about 1.5 seconds to compete a hip turn.. and that doesnt
account for the shear width of the foot, and the distance backwards
the foot may thrust. A hip turns depth is only about 5 to 6" So
a deep kick can still reach easily.
Also think about a side kick..where the foot is so wide, that your
turn will not be enough to avoid its length.
Its better to use arms as a block as they are much faster to deal
with these attacks, and in coodination
with the much slower stepping/turning.
(or use of stopkicks)
The hip turn is used very differently than many would have
you believe. Its never used as a sinlge way to get out of the
way of anything. Its used in conjunction with arms.. the arm
re-directing the incomming thing.. and the hip turns to help absorb
forces that otherwise would have tooken you off your ballance.
It also adds power to counter-attacks.
Its also used for adding power into typical strikes.
The problem here.. is that a spear is deadly on the way in, and out.
Many WC guys use re-directs to great advantage on
"non sharp arms". However, you will have a problem
re-directing a knife, because it can twist and
cut your re-direct hand or arm at any time with a simple twist.
A spear is simular. While you may be able to time a
re-direct/block.. the guy will pull it back, cutting your arm as it
retreats, and then he will re-stab you again going forwards.
A basball bat is much less deadly. If they miss, you dont
have to worry about the quick return slashings. As it takes them
so long to recover. It would be different if these swings
were done with lightweight kali sticks. But remember, that
your leg is Not a lightweight cali stick. It reacts to
round kicks simular to a heavy baseball bat... But its even slower
and less effective.
Anyways, are you a WC guy??! Because you should be
aware of this stuff.. unless you are a beginner.. or..
have never tried the stuff out there against non WC guys
and against varried weapons...
