Yes.

Then we don't really have an argument.

Taking a fighting attitude over it is generally
evidence that said credentials either don't exist or are forged.

Or the question was impertinent and meant to be an insult.
Your first question, in a martial arts context, should be; 'would you step
out on the floor and teach me something?'

Can't do that with questions of origin.

When
they are read, the person simply *produces* evidence of said credentials
and the person leveling the question then gets to shut-the-heck-up or look
the fool.

Or smacked around some- in our community.

I've found that it can often be *more* of a victory to humiliate without
ever touching the person.

Guy went up to Victor one time and said, very provocatively, 'I'd like to
see some of that silat.' So Victor knocked him out.
Simple question; simple answer.

Good story.

Rather, get ready to have the credentials produced and be humiliated. If
the credentials *can't* be produced, that's when you get combative.

I guess it's different amongst computer analyist guys.

Must be. We very often "compete" on intellectual standing. It's the
battlefield of first engagement. You only move on to physical engagement
after you've lost the battle of intellectual standing.

....or you get really, really, pissed. ;-)

Somehow I doubt it'll happen. It's Usenet. Maybe... *MAYBE* they'll meet
up at some point in the future. maybe...

Mike shows up, bud.
And does his trick just like he says he does-

Doesn't look like he's going to this time. Ben is "inviting" him to come
on out. Mike looks disinclined to do so. Not that I think this is an
unreasonable decision, mind you. I usually think it's goofy to travel to
answer a physical challenge.

And, further; Mike's scholarly questions stand unanswered- for some long
time now.
That's not what it looks like from here.

which is some measure of your own level of sophistication.

Heck, Ben and Charlie are *quoting* pages and paragraphs from the book
Mike is using to support his position. And, on top of that, they're
quoting from Kano himself on the "secret of Judo." Frankly, I give Kano
more credibility on knowing the "secret" of Judo over any other author.
So, yeah, it certainly *doesn't* look at all like Mike's scholarly
questions stand unanswered. They look to be definitively answered. And,
as far as the origin of Judo, the best I've seen *anyone* be able to
support is that Chinese arts, which *may* have possibly included Shiao
Jiao, *probably* influenced some of pre-Judo JuJitsu to *some* degree,
particularly through a specific instructor, but no one can say to what
degree, in what direction, or with any specificity.

You're a bright kid; love you to death- fruit and flower of our
civilization; hope for the future.

Aw, shucks.

no offense meant at all.

None taken. Like I said, I'm just feeling my cheery-ohhs. :-)

The key to 'peer review' is 'peer'.
Yeah, but 'peer', in this case, doesn't mean ceterus parabus. It means
"another scholar in the field."

yes.

My point is that "peer" just means other scholars, not "equal in every
regard."
