Mike tried to imply much more -
No; that was me, about him.
My statement of his credential was seized upon by his detractors as if he
made a claim- he did not. It was conflated into some sort of claim of
*the* USMC judo team- I said 'one of the', knowing that the Corps
supports teams from a number of different areas- that's where the
eliminations come from for the main team.
The problem is that on the one hand Sigman makes interesting and
intelligent posts on topics, and then follows up by a statement equivalent
to saying the Chinese woman's basketball team beat the LA Lakers
without anyone hearing about it (the judo equivalent of a woman's
shiau jiao team beating the Japanese men's team under judo rules ...
I won't go into how crazy this is considering its an olympic sport
with both woman's and men's divisions and if what he reported
were true the Chinese woman's team would easily win every
woman's gold ... despite what some feminists will tell you, woman's
judo champions get slaughtered when they seriously work with
competitive men).
Actually, this was a story from an accomplished shuai jiao practitioner who
mentioned that "A" Japanese judo team took on a Chinese shuai jiao team (as
I remember the story, since it was told to me in the 1980's) as part of some
of the preliminary moves done to form up some shaui jiao competitors into
judo players so they could compete in the judo tournaments, etc.. Remember
that I mentioned this during a conversation with some pretty redneck Judo
"experts" who thought the "ju" arts were invented in Japan and some of whom
thought that shuai jiao was some Chinese copy of judo. Keep it in context.
But just to give you an idea what assholes I'm dealing with, look at Holmes'
level of discourse and at the supposed "martial artists" who can't sign
their own names.
And like I said, I made a mistake at the time of the last big argument... I
though judo was nothing but some sport taijutsu with no depth to it, based
on the westerners I could see who are "experts". It turns out that real
Judo actually has some of the elements in it that I've made a focus of study
since the mid-1970s... or it's supposed to. So now we're at this very
humorous stage where someone publicly proclaiming to be expert enough to
"teach" judo (like Holmes or Eric Berge) gets to show whether then know the
"real secret of Judo". I'll tell you right now where my bet goes.
FWIW
