Stoves are pretty demystified and plenty of kids still get hurt with
them. Guns have the strong disadvantage of being fatal. I won't get
into a legislation debate, but if you have guns in your own house there
ought to be some gun control of your own accord - lock them up away from
the kids.
Adults get hurt on stoves too because it's a lot easier to hurt
yourself with a stove than with a gun.
Being from Saskatchewan guns surely can't be a mystery to you. How
many accidental deaths do you know about? I can tell you from my own
experience, having grown up with a grandfather that kept guns out in
the open, none of us grandkids touched them without permission. None
of his kids did either.
Sure, your mileage may vary, and just leaving them around on the sofa
is probably not a great idea, but it really wasn't a huge attraction to
me to try to play with my grandfather's guns. I knew I could see them
any time I wanted just by asking, so being all sneaky about it didn't
seem to make any sense.
