choppers followed by hand axes. Both are large, simple tools that only
require a few flakes to be struck off of a large core.

This one is between 400,000 and 600,000 years old, from the Sudan.

It is a very sophisticated tool requiring a lot of flaking off of a large
nodule. By the time you knock off one flake, you're well on your way to
knocking off two.
