It depends on the car. Some cars need the higher octane fuel, but if
your car is calling for the lower octane then you'd probably be wasting
your money with the higher octane. You might see *slightly* better
acceleration; and your mileage could be *slightly* better (or even
worse) but frankly the difference in mileage will probably be
unnoticeable.
The one benefit of the higher octane fuels is that they often include
detergents and other additives that are good for your fuel system. It
won't improve your mileage much (if at all) but it could be beneficial
in terms of keeping your engine clean.
It's a good idea to keep track of your mileage. Shop around between
brands and see what works best for you - different brands often use
different additives, and can even vary in terms of overall quality.
