Just wondering if anyone on the ng gets their 'net through Adelphia via
cable modem.

I called up and asked about it and was told I'd get 3megabits/sec service
for about $43US and I asked about Usenet access and newsgroups and the
technical rep guy had no idea what I was talking about.

He says 'well after you get the cablemodem and everything set up you can
use Outlook to look at the news. Of course this does me no good if I
discover they have crappy coverage, and don't allow binary groups and
soforth, requiring me to go through giganews or gmail or something. They
may not even have newsgroups expecting people to use google.groups.

He said that in the three years he's been doing tech support this question
has never come up. Amazing. Guess that's a good thing, heh.

Anyway, just trying to see if I can get better service. I actually
discovered that my current DSL had a rate structure change and I can
actually get 758K for $10 cheaper than I currently pay for my 512K service
now! So guess if you've had a plan for a while, might be a good time to
check on that. I'm bundling my phone onto that also and it turns out to be
about $20 cheaper than I pay through Sprint after they add in all their
bogus charges and taxes. I think I was paying something like $100 bucks
for
DSL and 2 phone lines with no long distance. Now it should be closer to
$63!

You yanks are behind the times mate. Aus$89 a month (about 20 US cents) for
24MB broadband and a VOIP service. : )
