Where did you get this number? It's not like they register.


The cost of food is not in the harvest-


That cost does not come out of thin air. If we change how things are
done it will make the cost go up. You can't project the old way onto
the new.

We have been over this many times. Farmers are price takers and *not*
price setters. The growers have no brand to recognise. The only thing
they can control is their own cost of production. If we can think of a
more efficent way it will eliminate the problem. Nobody hires migrant
workers to harvest wheat - they use combines. When shakers came along
for the most part they drove migrant workers out of the nut business.


Illegal immigrants have targeted the 'baseline' jobs- 'entry positions' have
now become lifetime careers. All of the jobs that used to be filled by
teenagers, or seniors, or otherwise 'marginal' workers, are now filled by
people who came here illegally.


I won't deny that Illegals are spreading into the the main market but
just how many of our teenagers would like to set the Xbox down, get off
the couch, and do real work for minimum wage? I know of one factory
where when they get an aplicant who is a US citizen and a HS grad his
entry level possition is foreman. They don't get enough of such
aplicants to fill any lower positions let alone run the place.


The only problem is
we need to find a way that also doesn't use oil or else that will come
back to bite us when it peaks.

how about just using our own workers?


Show me who else wants to do the work and show me who is willing to pay
a higer price for the exact same product.
