The most unbelievable thing about Cheney's account is the distance- 30
yards, with no rise to the muzzle of the shotgun- flat trajectory.
That seems highly improbable to me.
Yeah, I didn't like that one too much, either. Then again, Chas, there's
been a drastic change in hunting... pen-raised birds are everywhere,
nowadays, and they don't jump and fly like wild ones.
Guess that could explain it ... the only birds I've ever hunted are wild
water fowl. Caught away from the water, they escape ground preditors
by getting altitude fast (they escape air predators by heading for water
and landing as fast as they can - raptors swim like stones). But still,
they'd have to really hug the ground to make that accident seem like
anything but dumb hunting.
I can remember going with a hunting buddy of mine (we usually went after
deer and ducks) to a quail place where they raised the quail in flight pens.
They wouldn't jump to the dog or even us walking up. Finally my buddy went
over and got one in his hand and tossed it in the air for me, but all I
could do was laugh. ;)
