What does this have to do with you giving a step-by-step description of an
entry to a headlock that isn't couched in silat jargon?

be polite.
The whole idea of 'silat'- and particularly the kuntaosilat that I do, is
that you are triggered by the range from the opponent; take one entering
step, to clinch range. The application is not so much affected by 'left' or
'right', but by the angle of incidence that one takes to the enemy.
Clinch range engages at several levels; foot, knee, hip, shoulder, head- and
the positioning of your arms has more to do with your follow-up application,
not the 'first' one. The clashing of bodies (pukul) to uproot/displace
(displante) is a major technique.
The 'headlock' depends entirely on how the first part goes- front, back,
from which side, 'weak/strong' placement, and so on.
There's kind of a good one that looks like a jumping knee strike that flows
into a side-headlock (schoolyard headlock)- the finisher is the continuation
of the jump into a neckbreaker- I've never done it or seen it done in anger
though.

Nice. What I'm trying to promote is the use of the C-M shield to get entry
to clinch range. I think it fits perfectly with Silat.

If I didn't post it before, here's a page:

From there you're trying to get the MT 'plum', with the refinement that the
grip is a double palm grasp of the occiput. rather than the neck The
forearms are squeezed together, thumbs to the outside.

As he throws the jab, you take it on the shield, (usually right forearm)
and immediately step in and bring the other hand to the back of his neck.
Then you hug his head, bringing it down into your chest. This is a classic
double neck tie-up.

(If he starts to force the head up you can release one side and throw an
elbow and recapture.)

From here you do a snap-down, which is a sudden slap/press to the back of
the neck, bringing his head into your belly (this is all standup). Snap
down with the right hand and immediately capture the guy's chin with your
left and pull it into your belly. Your thumb is across his throat, cupping
his chin.

From there the right hand goes under to support, and you can grab your
other forearm. You have to keep the top/front of his head centered and
tight in your gut otherwise he can escape to the side and get a takedown.
Once in this position you can simply walk your hips forward and apply the
choke.

One of the key points is that the delivery system is the C-M shield. This
is a workable defense, unlike sticking your arms out and trying to 'block'
or intercept punches - you're much too open with the arms out away from the
head. It's also non-attribute based.

That site above has lots of clips showing the forearm shield or as he calls
his tighter version, 'the Fend':
