Strategic thinking
Obviously, strategy and planning are a large consideration for any martial artist.. what do do if... how bout when... etc.
For years I've heard that specific games (Chess, Go, etc.) are good for strategic thinking and the like.. Being an avid chess player (Maybe ranked 1000... maybe.. so avid, but not that good.. ;) ) I recognize the strategic thinking required in the game, but are there better? I don't play Go but have been told it is quite a bit better in that regard... Any players out there that can confirm/deny?
Here's a second question.. Games being what they are, you get better at the game by playing often.. but how easy is it to transfer that type of thinking to MA? do you (who also play these type games) notice a marked change in your thought processes regarding MA preparation/considerations after getting involved in these type of games?
I realize there is no substitute for 'hands on' training to get your MA reflexes and thought processes going, but I also recognize that there's a *huge* 'common wisdom' about the *better* warriors being adept at this sort of game.. so I thought I'd sound out the group to see what comes of it..
...Especially since Kirk isn't here with his WOTT thread.. this *almost* qualifies..
;o)
