Well, just got back and I'd say it was a very good experience. Didn't feel
it was too long at all, the extra time was used to build relationships with
the characters. The actors all did a great job, and KK was as fantastic as
one could expect, even better than "Mighty Joe Young" (1999), as they gave
the beast character, with his slightly misshapen features. I found myself
much more on Kong's side at the end and actually was hating the guys in the
planes!

The only part I didn't like was the landing on Skull Island and the groty,
nasty, almost sub-human natives. Instead of having a sense of wonder at
seeing the island, you're left with a feeling that it's an unpleasant mass
of spikey rocks, and not at all beautiful, as was the 1976 version of the
island and the landing.

Jackson did a superb job of story telling, and managed to change just
enough of the storyline to keep me guessing a little, while maintaining the
original 1933 story.

I also found a new sense of wonder and horror at what it must really have
been like back in the Jurassic period. It had a great deal of the depth and
realism that 'Jurassic Park' (93) never quite reached. The dinosaurs were
-not- lacking in CGI detail and were ten fold the amount of realism that JP
had, imo.

As I mentioned, the pathos at the end was palpable, and one woman near us
was sobbing profusely in the last 15 minutes, according to my daughter.

Though there are movies that I've been more affected by, this was excellent
escapist entertainment, and I'd easily give it 4.9 out of 5 stars.

Sorry to babble on... ;-)
