well goju-ryu karate is japanese, i not aware of any different styles called
Goju that wouldn't be japanese.

Technically it's a supposedly soft style derived from a hard linear style
that keeps some of its roots(if i recall, the name has two translations,
hard/soft and 54?, the 54 referring apparently to the number of moves in one
of the main kata).

I find it had a slightly different flow from the karate i was used to, more
redirecting as opposed to blocking and some of the kata were different.

Otherwise, unless this is a variant with a specialty, i think you'll find it
to be 'karate' in all that it implies..

Anybody got anything more specific for him?
