Google up 'body armouring' - that explains it (albeit somewhat
incorrectly). Also give him a copy of that 'Sensory Motor Amnesia'

I don't understand why toe abuction = better gait. Maybe Mark knows.
To me that would seem to affect the arch of the foot.
