All kidding aside, no kidding? Salt water and a battery? I remember
doing science experiments like that, you'd put a penny in lemon juice and
a nail on the other wire and the nail would get copper plated. What happens
to the rust, though? And why doesn't the salt water just totally corrode the
thing??
The salt makes the water more conductive. that is the only reason it is there.
anything that increases the conductivity will work.
Rusting is a chemical reaction which results in iron and oxygen bonding. With
the input of energy (electricity) the process can be reversed. There is a long
drawn out explaination that I ain't gonna type in here but can be found in a
basic chemistry book.
