I just received some of this today, the nice chaps at HandAmerican gave
me
the 1.5 oz tub for the price of the 1oz stick as they were having some
problems with the sticks. I cleaned both my strops using vaseline (in the
absence of any other suitable cleaning products) and replaced the 6,000
grit
Al2O3 paste with the tiniest amount of the new stuff. I'm very impressed
with it, just had a shave and my razor seems a lot smoother and sharper,
especially on the under-chin areas. The edge is shinier too :o)

I've been experimenting with this stuff too, and so far, am impressed
with the results. Are you using it on smooth or rough-out leather? I
find different 'types' of results with both, but in any case, quite
sharp. I like the fact that it cuts quickly.

But according to HA the green Al2O3 should be almost 60,000 grit, so
getting the results that we both seem to be getting makes no sense to
me. Maybe our testing is too subjective?

The Al2O3 stuff I have is Tormek honing paste which is 6000 grit or
thereabouts, it's white and goes dark grey quickly when used, suggesting
that it is definitely doing something to the blade. Does the job, but I
think I'll save it for using on my knives which probably don't need to be as
finely polished as my razors.
I'm using the black diamond stuff on a very cheap hanging strop which
looking back, I paid way too much for and on a wood backed strop with sort
of matt buff leather on it. Both pastes seem to do a decent job, but I can
definitely tell the difference on my razor when shaving.
