Re: Rec.kites Coming to an end

Well, for what it's worth guys, I still, albeit rarely, lurk here...

I miss what rec.kites once was...it's hard to believe that this is probably
my first post here in nearly a decade.

I would love to see an eclectic SPAM free forum modeled in the spirit of
rec.kites put together somewhere on the web. An international place where
you could filter with tags what information you did and did not want,
perhaps even share pictures and video as well.

In many ways rec.kites just got too big for its own good...

Keep looking up,

Thom Shanken

Indeed.

I hang out in a bunch of forums. Kitebuilder, Fractured Axel, AKA,
some relevants parts of flickr, sometimes flexifoil, but none of them
have anything like the reach or freedom that rec.kites had in it's
hayday.

What is the point of working hard to create content, when the entire
board is only in existance at the whim of the administrator/ owner?

What is the point of writing something worth reading when the majority
of kite fliers on the net don't read that forum?

I don't even go into the forum where you need to register even to
*read* it. GWTW, I think?

*sigh*

It used to be that I would write something on rec.kites and *everyone*
would read it. Kenisky and Maddy destroyed that.

The clear sign that rec.kites had died was when the plan to build the
bench for Ray Bethell was announced in here. Imagine that - rec.kites
has become a place so obscure that you can openly share secrets here
without fear that they might be picked up by the flier you are trying
to keep them secret from.
