So, the other thread I had started slowly died out, I think it's time to
start a new one!
This time, I'd like to hear how many rec.jugglers are competent in more
than one language.
I don't use the term 'bilingual' on purpose, as it is a misleading one,
the most commonly held definition of a bilingual being 'someone who is
able to express anything in their complementary language(s) as well as in
their mother tongue' or 'someone who has as good a command of his/her
complementary language(s) as of their mother tongue' (this definition of
bilingualism actually dates back to 1933!). Here, what qualifies as
'competent' is simply being able to construct grammatically correct
phrases and use some phrases in a communicative situation (so, no, being
able to order a beer in Basque isn't enough for qualifying you as
'competent'!).
Can you please state:
1) How many languages are you able to use?
2) What level of proficiency have you attained?
3) For how long have you been practicing each language?
4) What is your level in juggling?
5) For how long have you been juggling?
Thanks in advance!
Aymeric.
1) 4 (German, English, Spanish, French)
2) German, English and Spanish fluent, French semi-fluent
3) German and Spanish- pretty much all my life (27 years) English (22
years)
French- 5 years in school (10 years ago), also spent some time in
France to
practice
4) High (5 club tricks, 7 balls...)
5) 15 years
