If you don't want to start with a zero, then n-1 throws should suffice. If
you want to start with a zero n throws should suffice, but since the only
pattern just containing zeros is a ground state pattern, n-1 throws should
always suffice, I think. That is if you start at ground state. Generally,
I think you
will need n-m throws if the state you want to transition to has m x's in a
row in the beginning.
I could be horribly wrong.
