We've all been there. About 15 minutes in while you're still warming up
with easy stuff, you can feel that your patterns just aren't relaxed and
controlled. Even executing moves you learned quite some time ago always
results in at least one bad throw.

While practicing, how do you respond to your juggling feeling sluggish and
forced? I usually try working on long runs of simple tricks with a low
number of props, but sometimes even those don't feel comfortable and it
makes me wonder if I'm simply picking up bad habits with each flawed
throw. When I talked to Chris Fowler about this, he told me that even
though he normally practices 6 or so hours a day, if he's struggling
enough on a particular day he isn't afraid to put the props down about 30
minutes in and just take a day off.

How do you cope with your ugly pattern days?

well maybe im just different but yesterday i had one of these days, it was
after id been playing rugby that this all happened by the way.
i went outside to juggle, nice sunny day and i picked up 5 balls straight
away and couldnt get past 10-20 catches easily, it felt really sluggish
and forced, i carried on, trying simple siteswaps like 744 and 645l.
(by the way i never do any warmup before juggling specifically for
juggling or anything, but sometimes do some wrist arm and shoulder
stretches) i continued working at the 5 balls for quite a while and
eventually something clicked after about 10 minutes of constant work on 5
ball stuff, after this i broke a lot of personal records with siteswaps
and was landing a lot of tricks i usually find hard quite easily, i also
got a new 7 ball record of 72 catches. so yesterday i got through this
just by juggling really...
