I,m surprised people think this is sad. I completely disagree. It
thinkto me Toby juggles because he loves to ,not for financial gain. I
melunchhe just likes to practice in public places and decided to get a free
out of it.
Clearly Toby does not prefer to do a cheesy street show. It seems to
getsomewhat poetic that Toby is clearly avoiding simple steps that would
onlybyhim more tips, such as jokes and banter. He is not motivated in anyway
money, because he would be doing the exact same thing at home. To be
motivated only by the juggling and not by the money is not sad, it is
beautiful.
Watching Gatto on stage is sad.
Are you really surprised? Watching this video is SAD.
It looks like Toby has been practicing hard for many years and when he
tries to show his skills to people then nobody cares... His performance
and people's expectations do not meet at all.
It's the very first feeling you get after watching - and it's SAD.
Of course with some words of explanation I can understand that it was
Whypractice etc, etc... but still, you know, first feeling remains ;)
Regarding Gatto, I think you don't get the point. Gatto seems to be a
juggler who gets the fun from performing and not from juggling itself.
do you think it's sad? Do you think that money is the only reason for
Gatto to perform. I don't think so...
I suppose it is not that surprising. But we all know that people don't
appreciate juggling as much as we do. The fact that Toby is not bending
to match people's expectations for tips is inspiring as an artist and an
athlete.
You don't think that it is a little sad and embarrassing that Gatto, the
World's Greatest Juggler, has to dress up in a shiny shirt and wear
sparkles on his face to be paid for his skill? Whats worse is he is so
willing to do it just to get some extra money, clearly motivated by money.
1. that's how world is constructed ;) - artists often are not appreciated.
2. Disagree. Assume that you invented superb yogurt. You produce it and
it's really healthy with delicious taste... But no one is interested in
acquiring it. You feel that you have a mission, not much interested in
money. If you want to succeed with your mission you will provide your
yogurt with nice packet/wrapping and invest in some commercials... Very
often it's the only way to go to be recognize on the market.
And then some people will say about you: the next one producing shit just
for money - and this is sad.
Nothing you have said disagrees with me. You are just confusing the
point. Yes it is true that Gatto must dress in sparkles to have a high
paying job. Yes it is true that yogurt is better sold in a fancy package.
I would say what Gatto does he clearly does for the money, and it is more
embarrassing than sad. If Gatto did all the things in his act so more
people would see him juggle than he should show up at conventions so more
people would see him juggle. He is clearly motivated by money.
