I've read the first/or rather second post and it was VERY helpful.
I've just had 3 periods of AS further maths so I am not going to go into
the depths of this notation and
experiment now, however, I can clarify that I now understand the system. I
am still not familiar with it, so
it took me 5 minutes to figure out what was going on with tennis but the
main idea now, I get.
This does bring about many interesting topics surrounding how to apply
this to other siteswaps, with
more balls, or perhaps just more complicated looking variations. Is there
an animator that will play out
tricks with applied pattern notation?
Very interesting, but I will attempt to study it further tomorrow after I
have had some sleep.

Thanks, I'm really glad to hear that the notation made sense. To apply
this to other siteswaps is not a problem, usually. Siteswap works with
regular beats of time on which the throws are made, so each beat is simply
assigned a pair of numbers. This applies to any siteswap, although it is
sometimes quite difficult to transfer a pattern, for example to a
synchronous siteswap. As for adding more balls, the same is true, although
patterns with more beats will become interesting, e.g 5 ball tennis is a 5
beat pattern.
Please do try and experiment with the notation, as I suspect there may be
some interesting new patterns to be discovered with it.
Thanks,
Reuben
