I'd recommend going along to the most ridiculous sounding beginners
workshop that you can find as an ice breaker - the 'three foot piece of
string' one did it for me. That way you can get to know a few faces
without any fear of being the only one making an idiot of themselves.
That's a great way of getting to know people I never thought of! I'll try
that sometime!
I've been to quite a few conventions over the years and many where only a(does anyone ever speakes ones own language?)
few people speak the same language as myself but it has never been a
problem.
The really scary thing is that after going to a couple you may find
yourself as addicted to tea, chat and other games and not doing as much
juggling as you had hoped.
At one point I even stopped taking juggling-props with me as I knew I'd
only sit around, play games, chat, drink tea...
