Camcorder Advice

Hi rec.
So my friend now tells me that I won't be able to use his camcorder to
finish my DVD since he is going travelling and will take it with him so I
am now in the position where I need to buy one rather than sponge off of
my friend.
This is actually very convenient timing as I am Japan for 9 days although
I am a bit confused about HD / AVCHD. I remember reading that AVCHD is
currently only supported by Pinnacle studios and another app that I forgot
the name of (both of which I don't have).
So I am thinking of going with an HD camera rather than "standard"
although I'd like to know if there's much difference between the quality
of the two. Also, I read:
"even if your editing application does handle HD, you likely won't be able
to output your movies to an easily viewable high-definition format--often,
these editing apps let you burn only a standard-definition disc."
I am using Adobe Premier Pro 2 to edit and would like to know if it
supports HD and if it does whether I will be able to successfully output
the movie?
A great big thank you to anyone that can give me some advice because right
now it seems that I will have to go with a "standard" camera.
