Re: Why not a Bulletin Board?

It takes a few posts to get used to the system, but that's the same for
any kind of system that you are not new to. Call it the in-built muppet
filter if you will: we don't have to put up with people lacking the
common sense to navigate their chosen method of posting to the group. It
may sound harsh but there are enough idiots online without making it
easy for them to bother the rest of us!

I've attempted to get involved in this board before several times over the
past few years- I have made a few posts and the fact is the interface is
still, for me, unusable.

At the moment on the left page panel is a tree that, even after only 20
posts on the thread, takes up 2/3 the width of the page if you want to see
all the posters.

I've had to go to the google groups interface to actually read the thread.

So, fair enough that you prefer it that way, but I can assure you that
it's not the case, for many, that a 'few posts' will make the board usable.

I'm not an idiot either- I've contributed responsibly to several other
skills based communities with bulletin board style interfaces (HOP,
unicyclist.com, diabolo.ca)- I suspect that many others who would post
here but don't, cos they find the interface unusable, aren't idiots either.

As Drew points out- you won't be getting complaints from any of them on
this board, purely cos they cannot access it.

Incidently, having been across to the developers part of the board and
posting a topic there with a link to this thread (link-
http://www.jugglingdb.com/dev/index.php?topic=498 )- i find that the
interface there is replies all on one page, in order of posting.

If it can be done there, what's the problem with that kind of interface
being available for this section?
