Good luck with your new podcast. Here are some (constructive) criticisms
..

After about 10 minutes I started to fast forward through the podcast. At ~
16 minutes my batteries died. I don't think I will bother listening to the
rest of it.

Here are some of the reasons why:

The sound quality was pretty poor. Are you two talking to each other over
a telephone? The guy talking in my left ear (Rahzel?) is loud and
distorted, while the other guy is barely audable. The intro, where you
talked over the music was even harder to make out. I tried listening on
the train and on the walk to work - this just made it worse.

Agreed, but it wasn't quite so drastic on mine. However it was still
pretty bad.

One of the biggest problems with your podcast is the lack of content. At
the start of the podcast you mentioned that the big features were some
gossip on Dave Altman, and a guest appearance by Jason Garfield. Unless I
missed them, they had not surfaced after the 16 minutes I listened to.

They were apparently waiting for Jason Garfield to get home (I assume so
he could call them) before starting the real stuff. However, the first 20
mins probably could've been cut way down.

However, I have very very little interest in whatever gossip you may have
on Dave Altman. Yes, he is oppinionated and as a result he rubs some
people up the wrong way. But surely there must be something more
interesting to talk about?

This was based on what's going on in the WJF forums I believe.

What is your target audience?

Is it just American people who read the WJF forums? If so, then I doubt
you need to change anything. If you want to extend your reach you will
have to change a lot.

It makes very dull listening when you chat about a video I have not seen.
Why not describe the video first? Set the scene a little bit. However, if
all you can say about a circus act is that the finale isn't very hard and
that they staged the first drop - you don't really understand the circus!

I believe it is http://youtube.com/watch?v=5RxhCHBU9Lw . It was posted
here some time ago.

I must admit that I found the first few podcasts that Luke published to be
pretty poor also. However, I have just started listening again (due to the
Stefan Sing and Viktor Kee interviews) and there has been a considerable
change in quality. The sound is good, the chat is lively, the people
talking have opinions and thoughts that are interesting. It also doesn't
matter that I have not been to the conventions they are talking to and
haven't seen all the acts or shows, they know how to tell a story.

Luke's podcasts increased in quality almost immediately, and are usually
quite fun to listen to. I can only hope that these guys also improve at an
equal pace.

Anyhow, good luck with the podcast. I think you are going to have to work
a lot harder to make this thing a success.

Regards,
Colin E.

A few additional thoughts:

You HAVE to edit these in the future. There was only maybe 30 minutes of
talk on relevant subjects. I know it's a large project, but it must be
done, or you will loose you audience. Unless you do, I'm afraid I simply
won't be able to listen to another 50+ , minute podcast.

You did do some good things though.

1. You got a very good guest speaker (Garfield). I did enjoy listening to
what he had to say on some of the topics.

2. The topics were also good. However, you might wish to explain what they
are. For example, I had no idea what the Extreme Games at the WJF are
going to be, and I only have a vague idea now. One of you took a speach
class recently. When I took mine, one of the biggest requirements was
details. The same applies here.

I hope that you make another podcast, as I did enjoy your first one. BUT,
it must be of greater quality than this one. It should not be a chore to
listen to.

I hope I have helped some. Good luck!

-Wesley
