Re: Zeiss Conquest Scopes

Does anyone have any information as to how the Zeiss Conquest line is
holding up now that they've been on the market and in the field for
awhile? I'm in the typical dilema: Zeiss Conquest, Leupold VXIII or
Bushnell 4200 Elite. I like the Zeiss, love the reputation but am
still a little leary about buying a second tier Zeiss and don't have
the dough to shell out for their upper level model. Any feedback
regarding how the Conquest has been holding up and comments pertaining
to this choice in general would be greatly appreciated.

Additionally, while I've got you here, is there any true advantage to
buying the 3.5-10x44 as opposed to a typical 3-9x40 for general big
game hunting in North America? What would the disadvantages be?

I am a huge fan of the Conquest line- I have several of these in the
different variable powers. I have found the scopes to be very
reliable, rugged, and accurate, and have used them for deer and elk in
several states. They have given me great service with very few
problems.

I personally prefer the Zeiss to the Leupold scopes because I think
the Zeiss is better in low light conditions. I hunt a lot in South
Carolina where legal hunting extends to 1 hour after sunset. The
Conquest has given me better performance and has been the difference
in making the shot on a good buck that I would probably not have seen
through a Leupold. I have not used a Bushnell Elite so I can't
compare it.

I like the 3.5-10x44 scope a lot. It is reasonably light in weight
and is not a huge scope to put on a rifle. I thing the sight picture
is a little clearer than the 3-9x40, but the 3-9 is entirely adequate
for deer out to 300 yards. You can usually find the 3-9 for sale on
the internet for about $100 less than the 3.5-10.

Hope this helps. Good shooting.
