You bet your *** I do, all those things. I can also weld, do plumbing,Well Zombie I am similar to yourself in that I take a bit of pride in
build solar collectors, do woodworking, have a large garden, and also know
computers and ham radio, and electronics. My 1981 Chevy plow truck gets my
fond attention every year, and never fails to plow the considerable snow we
get up here all winter.
Rebuild a tranmission ? I have been known to do it on occasion. The
information is and was available long ago...
Computers ? yep, I'm well versed in them. I have about 8 of them networked
in the house here.
I HATE shelling out exorbitant fees to people like plumbers, mechanics,.
etc, when i can do the job myself, and probably do it a lot better, and a
hell of a lot cheaper, then they will.
The house ? bought it for peanuts, abut 25 years ago, it was a dump. I fixed
it up, insulated it, put in solar water heating, and I now go thru a winter
here in the frozen north with about a 250 dollar heating bill, because i
burn only wood, and i do it efficiently. I can live cheaply enough that I
am putting the kid through college all right !
What have YOU learned to do lately ?

Come on. Cutting up a deer is quite simple, and after you do it a fewI guess you built your house yourself, repair your truck yourself and
times,
you learn real quick where to make the cuts and what to keep and not
bother
with. there are also copious videos and books on the subject out there.
If
you have to hire a guy to cut up your deer, then you shouldn't have shot
it
in the first place.
make your own clothes too? After all its quite simple and there are
tons of info on each of the subjects out there.
There are tons of things out there that we could do if we wanted, but
many of use choose not to. Each of us trades money for goods and labor
everyday, why should butchering a deer be any different?
Maybe you say everyone should know how to butcher just in case that had
to one day. Fine, do you know how to rebuild your transmission or how
about your computer, or ......
doing a lot of those things myself, cause I hate paying someone to do it
and I like to know that I can. However ther are a few things I cant/wont
do because I simply cant. I have tried but I just cant do it (There is
actually a lot I cant do). An example is run the house like my wife can.
There is no way I would come close. But thats a bit OT. If we get back
to the original question...Is field dressing a deer necessary? If you
are going to eat it yes, so learn how to increase the great taste and
pride you will have when you put it on the table. It isnt hard, work
from bottom to the top. And learn from your mistakes.
In New Zealand we shoot a lot of rabbits and possums . Its off with head
split and dressed. Skinned at home, a 1/4 hour on the fire and over to
the dogs.
