It seems that the ex-king resents the fact that he was overthrown with
the aid of Belgium, but is perfectly happy to perpetuate styles and
titles that are 'Belgian' in origin.

One can resent being occupied by a foreign power and yet be perfectly
willing to accept any advantages that came with it, even justifying it as
"the least we're owed because of our suffering." (as an example)

No doubt, the former Rwandan King feels betrayed and authorized by Belgium
at the same time. Probably feels that the Belgian imprint is there, whether
he appreciated it or not, so he might as well use it. Make lemons out of
lemon aide.

Greetings! I agree with the thoughts of George and William.
Furthermore, thanks for the kind words about my previous postings.
However, though I am part of the organization, I can't say I'm a big
supporter of the Rwandan nobility grants -- if it were up to me, we'd
solely offer Order of the Lion given its pre-1961 status. As
webmaster of the Royal Association website, I wrote or else edited the
bulk of the site, but this doesn't mean that I'm happy with all of the
content I was asked to put there. :)

For those that read my postings from several months back, I'm sorry to
say I never received the digital scans of the papers which were
supposedly presented to a cardinal of the Vatican affirming the
existence of Lion prior to 1961. As Chris Buyers has pointed out in
the past, we don't have any material evidence of even Lion existing
prior to '61 except for statements by the Chancellor and the King that
it did exist. I'm hopeful that some evidence will eventually
surface...

To answer an earlier question, we are in contact with Rwandans still
in the country. To say more would be less than prudent, as relations
with the republic of Rwanda are not as warm as I'd like them to be.
For example, I've placed multiple calls to the state house of Rwanda
seeking permission to establish an educational foundation there with
funds from the Royal Association. Alas, our overtures have been
rebuffed.

Nevertheless, please don't paint all of us supporters of H.M. King
Kigeli V with the same brush. We are a varied group of individuals
with differing opinions on how to best assist the exiled King. To
that end, if any of you have a chance to read the recent work of Dr.
Addington Saint-David (who, if I may brag on him a moment, received an
award of chevalier of the French legion of honor from Jacques Chirac
and is currently at Harvard if I recall correctly), it is a
fascinating study of the role of the Mwami over time.

Respectfully yours,
Guye Pennington
