Armorial bearings and insignia seems to be a new subject.
If a man becomes a knight after receiving a grant it is unlikely that
he will seek a new grant showing the insignia.
Using insignia with arms is a matter oi convention and custm, niot law.

I don't think a new grant is likely. He may pay to have a library
copy of his Arms with the knightly insignia and helm. If, however, he
was made a Knight Grand Cross and so was entitled to supporters there
could be a new LP just for them.

Yours aye

Stephen

I don't think supporters can be counted as insignia Stephen.
Whilst insignia might fall under convention and custom but not law,
few would argue that, within the jurisdiction of Lyon Court and the
CoA at least, even if a man became entitled to supporters he ought not
to assume them but should seek a grant. That is what quite properly
happened in the example you so helpfully gave.
