I felt this was not too easy to read on the screen and so have added
more white space.

An example of this can be seen at:

http://www.heraldicmedia.com/test_layout/richmond.htm

Which of these two layouts do people prefer? Grafton or Richmond?

The latter is more appealing to the eye, but I think it has more space
than is required to improve legibility. A little more space (leading)
between *all* the lines -- within entries (paragraphs) as well as
between them -- would go a long way in that regard.

I'm not quite sure what you mean here.

The more space that's added, the more scrolling is required to scan
through the page. (The wider the viewing window, the more significant
the effect; the trend these days is to wider, 'cinematic' displays. OTOH
smallish type is more comfortable to read in short lines.) Would it be
possible to add only, say, half a line's worth of extra space between
the entries? I believe the benefit to clarity would be much more than
half as great.

The problem is I am restricted by the limitations of HTML. Half-line
spacing would be a doddle in Word but I don't think it can be done in
HTML without some very clever use of CSS which is beyonf my limited
programming skills.

BTW the "children" entries seem to have acquired a superfluous level of
indentation in the Richmond format; was that intentional? IMO it's only
slightly helpful, if at all.

It was intentional, to show "children" as a sub-set of "married" - it
can easily be taken out!

Grateful for your comments.

Regards

Patrick
