Salt water and firearms

So opening weekend on the ducks is over for another year,and cleaning
the salt water and mud off the shotgun needs to be done.

In the feild (or rather, over the salt water) I usually am quite
liberal with a bottle of whatever lubricating oil I have to hand -
usually a Hoppes or Remington branded gunoil.

But getting home its time for a decent clean, but one thing I've never
done is 'flush' the gun with freash water as was suggested to me
yesterday.

So, given a 15yearold pumpaction that is starting to show signs of
external pitting and has lost most of its blueing, how would you clean/
treat it after a weekend in the mud and saly water?
