# This is a pet peeve of mine. I never read that a baseball bat suddenly
# attacked someone, or that a knife decided to stab a person. But, per the
# media, guns seem to discharge by themselves, no human intervention
# required. I wonder if a human has to load them, or can they
# load themselves? Maybe we need to lock up ammo with locks that guns
# can't open.
This was the last thing I wanted to read today. I firmly believe that pilots
ought to carry guns on board as the last layer of defense against a hyjacking.
I also know that guns kept in a holster seldom have an accidental discharge.
I'm still waiting for details: was he playing with it? They've already said it
happened "during a flight" so it happened in the air. What possible reason
could he have had to have it removed from its holster or case in flight?
The very last thing I want to hear is that he was just being a cowboy. It
doesn't serve our cause very well and doesn't serve our security at all
either... just giving ammunition (so to speak) to the critics who'd rather go
naked.
I'm also curious where the round went and what damage it caused. I know a skin
puncture isn't much of an event but todays cockpits are very much packed with
technology.
