# 308, and 30-06. Other such cartridges are also acceptable.

#
# I can see that he Browning comes in two basics variants; the 1895 and
# the BLR

# The Winchester has the 1895 and the model 88.

# If there are other lever-action manufactures or models that have

#
# Now, I would also like your opinion on the relative strengths/

# general category of carbine, to match the better quality bolt-action
# hunting rifles.
#
# As always, your comments/opinions are greatly valued.

88s are rapidly approaching the collectors'-only realm in price. Used
to be you could get a good post-64 example for a few hundred bucks.
All up in the 4 figure area, even for the common ones. I have several
I've inherited, the .284 shoots the best. They've all got spongy
triggers, not much can be done to correct them. Gunsmith-only
takedown, not for casual disassembly unless you like puzzles.
Definitely Bore Snake work for cleaning.
Savage 99s can be had a little cheaper, but those are getting up
there, too. $700 for an old beater .250-3000 at the last show.
1895 repros are up there, too. Originals are collectors' items, even
beaters are going for 1200+ around here. Good condition .405s and .
30-40s are 2500+.
I've only ever seen one Sako lever in 30 years, was in .358 and was
$4K 20 years ago.
Best bet is to find a BLR you can live with. Magazines can be hard to
get, there are several generations, you've got to make sure you've got
the one that matches the gun. A co-worker bought one, it was pretty
accurate with factory ammo. Had a hell of a time finding magazines,
ended up on the internet, $50+ each for three.
