I don't know any air pistol projectiles which would be reliable for self
defense with a legal projectile. A cross bow or spear pistol would be
but they aren't very concealable. For almost no money you can make a
sling which will throw 1500 grain (1" lead or 1-1/4" steel) balls at
over 100 fps with a range of 100+ yards. The sling is concealable and
reasonably accurate with practice. http://slinging.org
