# I've owned several Rugers and still do now. If it places the first shot at
# POA I leave it alone. In the past 50 years I've never needed that 2nd or
# 3rd
# shot at a single deer. If you cannot hit the kill zone with the first shot
# you should not take it. When I zero in my rifle I'll take a shot make the
# needed correction and lay the rifle aside to cool for 30 minutes then take
# the next shot and correct until I get POA. Remember when you are shooting
# game that first shot is with a cold barrel and not warm up after a dozen
# rounds. The first time I ever took a second shot was last year. One deer
# with each shot.

That is the way to do it with a hunting rifle. If you can use the same
target for about 10 shots. Take one shot when you get to a shoting range
and maybe another when you leave. Do that for several differant trips and
that will give you the real hunting group.
It does no good to shoot a 1/2 group and then the next week shoot another
1/2 group but 2 or 3 inches away from the first due to maybe bumping the
scope out of adjustment.
