Actually, that is not quite true.
Yes, the M14 is still a somewhat heavy rifle, but it weighs at least a
pound less and is about four to six inches shorter than the M1 Garand.

The advantage of a selective fire weapon without a bipod is dubious.
Even the M16 is spraying its bullets skyward after the third round.
