I have one that I`m pretty pleased with.
It`s reliable and accurate. It will work reliably with just
about any load I`ve tried in it.
For accuracy it has shown a marked preference for one
of my pet handloads. 5.6gr of Unique with a 230gr
FMJ round nose. (Keep in mind that this load may or may
not work well in your gun. As with any handload you should
start low and work your way up watching for pressure signs.
This load isn`t a real barn burner, but it`s not a light target
load either)
The frame/slide fit and barrel bushing fit on my Para was
pretty tight. That`s good for accuracy, but I did need to
keep it very clean while I was breaking it in. I love Unique
powder for accuracy and it works well in almost any
low to medium pressure handgun caliber, but it is very
dirty burning. The powder residue will mix with oil and
form a sludge that can make a tightly fitted gun hang up
once in a while in forward battery.
After about the 1st 100 rounds it was never a problem
again.
If your gun is that tight (some are, some are not) use as light
of gun oil as you can find and keep it clean during break in.
As you use the gun the moving parts will wear into one another
and get rid of any tiny burrs on the moving parts.
When I bought it the trigger was kind of stiff and heavier than
I liked. (I like light triggers) But a lighter hammer spring and
just a little polishing on the sear and hammer did wonders
for the trigger pull. (If you decide you would like to do something
like that, and have not done it before, I recommend having a
good gunsmith do it.)
Most people wouldn`t have been unhappy with the trigger
the way it was out of the box, but like I said, I like my triggers
on the light side.
The recoil feels a little lighter than a normal single stack 1911.
Probably because the grip is a little wider and distributes
the recoil over a larger area of your hand.
But when all is said and done, I have to admit that I still
prefer my Colt 1911. I have medium size hands and the
Para`s grip frame is just a bit big for my hand. The Colt`s
slightly smaller grip frame is more comfortable to me.
And having the grip of any handgun fit your hand well
makes more difference than you would think until you
try it.
Hope you enjoy your new Para. I doubt you will be
dissapointed in it.
