Yeah, unfortunate. Some of our southern neighbors experimented (some still
do) with alternatives involving special "squads". The problem becomes one
of control and selection. Who controls and who selects? They always
seemed to start out with hardened criminals and huge repeat offenders
getting "disappeared" for the benefit of society. Then it always degraded
into eliminating petty criminals and political dissidents and then finally
anyone that objected to the operation of the squads at all. Sure wish
someone could come up with some alternative between ineffective prisons and
death squads. Of the two, right now, I'll go with locking their butts up
for as long as possible. My goal is isolating him from my family for the
next 30 years. Prisoner rehabilitation? What he makes of the time inside
is his choice. There was something to be said of France's philosophy in the
early-1900s. Just get them out of your society. Serious criminals were
exported out of their country to prisons and work farms of French Guiana
where slipping under the wire and running back to the 'hood was not really
feasible. Devil's Island is closed now. Hmmmm, how about a prison in
Antarctica. Let the pervs try escaping from there. Long cold swim. Ha Ha
