Rarity of a Remington 788 in .30-30?

Lately I've had an itch to get a .30-30, but being a bit of a
non-traditionalist, and really being a fan of bolt actions, I'd prefer
to get a bolt action .30-30 :).
Now, as far as I can tell, the Savage 340 and Remington 788 are pretty
much my choices here. The Remington is designed in such a way that a
scope can be mounted properly in-line with the bore which I'd prefer to
the side-mounts that are required by the savage.
Problem is, on all the gun sites nor local shops I visit, I never see a
788 in .30-30. The Savages seem to be fairly common in that
chambering, look they they run cheaper than the 788, and if I find one
old enough I can avoid the FFL transfer (I have a C&R).
So: for a guy wanting a .30-30 bolt action, would I be better served to
keep waiting on a Rem 788 to pop up, or is the side-mounting of the
scope for the Savage really that big of a deal?
Thanks for any input.

I'll read any responses in the group.
