# it's a piece of cake for a competent gunsmith...the holes have to line
# up is all...hehehehee
# I understand your concern...go to your favorite gunshop and ask for a
# gunsmith or reference to a good one...
#
# {{If you happen to be in NE Ohio, drop by a Conrad and Dowdell Gun show
# at the Medina County fairgrounds...find me in NE corner and then I'll
# introduce you to Jimmy Caudill, aka the Mauser Guy, and he'll do it
# right for you...}}
#
# He also does a great sako-style porting job on most any boltgun... he
# uses an edm machines to port your rifle without adding anything but 10
# holes on top sides of bore at muzzle end...
# {I had a weatherby mark V 300wby mag done and recoil was about half of
# an unported rifle, I actually enjoyed shooting the 300 wby with 180
# grainers... }
I have been told the Mauser Guy actually lives near Central Ohio (so do
I) and have considered looking him up. I though about Porting, but I
don't want to shorten the barrel that way, I would rather have the extra
weight than shorten it.
I would love to have a 300WM with a 30" x 1.25" barrel, but a custom is
out of my price range right now. I was going to send the 7mm to PacNor
to have a custom barrel installed (1.125" x 30") but the cost was more
and I would have had to modify the stock too, so I'm going to just build
a custom as time/money permits and get a brake for the 7mm.
I've seen brakes that allow you to twist them to change the amount of
brake - do you have any experience with those?
