Jim
Get your position relative to the target so that when you present the
pistol on target, the sights are pointed at the target. check it by
closing your eyes, raise the pistol to the shooting position, open your
eyes and see where its pointed. If correction needs to be done, move
the REAR foot until the pistol points naturally at the target. Check
this a couple of times. When you are satisfied with your body position,
close your eyes (after checking for falling skydivers), present the
pistol on target with yoru eyes closed, press the trigger and recover
from recoil with your eyes still closed, and continue to fire until you
have finished the string. Then open your eyes to check the results of
your endeavors.
If your grip is correct, and you focus on each shot, you should have a
nice tight group. I find that many shooters will unconciously shift
their focus from the front sight to the target as the shot is released.
This will open up the group for two reasons.....#1 loss of sight
alignment, #2 Lack of follow through.
The only time this has not worked for me was when a nude skydiver fell
on me during the 3rd shot. I had a hard time getting the proper
position back without opening my eyes! <ggg>
As a side note, I've been a marksmanship coach for over 50 years and
trained several national class champions and national record setters
including one national champion and one Olympic shooter.
I won my national distinguished pistol badge in the early 80's and was
a Presidents 100 (Pistol) member at the nationals in '84. I'm so shy
and bashful!
Happy New Year!!!
