Re: Journalist Article on Gun Running.

1) Handguns in Great Briton are illegal and sell for $2k
2) The same handgun is $400 in the US retail, but lots of paper work is
needed; form 4473 and a NICS background check.
3) The same handgun without paperwork, in a state where readily
available at $500, sells used private sale for $600 without paperwork.

If the market were linear, we could say that guns are 7.5% illegal in
the US. Any more gun control will drive up the price of private guns to
match the demand.

Eventually, if guns were $2k in the US, we would expect to see knives
replace guns in street fights. That would lead to more deaths, as the
recovery rate from handgun attack is 80%, and less for knife attack.

Most people shot in the US are in the drug trade, and those at the
retail level are often hospitalized 4 or 5 times for gunshot wounds at
government expense. Knives would drive up the death rate and cause the
price of illegal drugs to go up. This would make the drugs more
profitable and make $2k guns more affordable.
