While I agree with you about private property rights.....

Consider the scenario where a plant is located in a bad neighborhood.
Employee has to work late at night. Runs into problems after he
leaves the plant and cannot defend himself because the company
prohibited him from keeping gun in car.

At this point, the company seems somewhat liable in an ethical sense
for whatever happens to the employee.

Tough question!
