#I am torn on this issue. But I think private property rights should have
# the heaviest concession. The locked car provision seems like a reasonable
# compromise between not allowing ANY guns on the property at all and
# allowing
# employees to carry openly on the job. I carry with a CCW license but I
# have
# the right to say whether someone else brings firearms on MY private
# property. I am a firm supporter of private property rights. It is one
# of
# the founding cornerstones of this country. If someone else objects to my
# policy, they have the right to not come on my property and provide me with
# their employee skills and customers have the right to deny me their
# patronage. If Disney decides they don't want firearms on their private
# property for whatever reason they believe in, that's their business.
# The
# park employee or tourist customer that just won't give up their right to
# carry has the personal freedom to look elsewhere for employment or
# entertainment. No one is forcing them to be on that PRIVATE property. I
# think the employer that allows the "packer" to bring his gun to the
# property
# but lock it in the vehicle during their stay is making a reasonable
# concession. Very few employers search vehicles anyway, (other than at
# some
# military or government installations) so making this a law is an easy
# option. I am still open to arguments on details I may have not
# considered.
# What do some of you other guys think? If it was YOUR private property,
# how
# would you handle the issue? Put yourself in the position of the "Packer"
# and put yourself in the position of the property owner. It's a
# complicate
# balance of rights.
Hey, Gunny......... I agree, sort of. I firmly believe in private property
rights also. From my personal experience of having to give up my gun toting
during working hours. I think that if the employer wants a gun free
environment they should provide a lock box for those who want to carry to
and from work. (I had to drive nearly 70 miles of interstate one way to get
to work.) The Marines at the gate would confiscate any employees gun they
found and provided no way for you to legally relinquish your firearm at the
gate. For visitors, they would bag and tag firearms to be returned upon
exit. It sort of made us employees out to be second class citizens. Maybe
this law can change some of that "having less rights than other folks simply
because we carry a gun".
