I tend to agree with this. It is a pretty tough balancing act between
property owners' rights and CCW holders'.
I think it would simply be polite, and promote good relations between
employers and employees, not to have a blanket prohibition against
firearms on company property. The employees have to travel to and from
the job, so they may prefer to carry to and from but would not object to
not being allowed to carry on the job.
Delivery/collection folks and outdoor workers are yet another population
whose carry rights have been at issue.
Around here, near Akron OH, there are no few of those no deadly weapons
signs on doors. A few even actually comply with the CCW law.
I often remark to the property owners that those who will obey the signs
aren't the problem and those who are the problem won't obey the signs
anyway. It's surprising how many take some offense at that factoid.
I had occasion to go to the county courthouse to file some papers
recently. The main door had a metal detector inside with one Deputy
Sheriff attending, nobody else visible around the area at all. Talk
about being the first officer on the scene! :)
Scenario:
If Joe Terrorist or even just some disgruntled citizen wanted to gain
entry and hurt people in the building, how long would it take to shoot
one deputy and proceed through the rest of the building until eventually
stopped? Sawn-off shotgun under a long coat, head shot for the detector
deputy, and off to the races he goes! (Additional weapons are left as an
exercise for someone who would actually do this sort of thing.)
Sheesh!
Those who are the problem won't obey the signs anyway.
