#Hello all,
#
#I recently inherited an older S&W revolver in .38 Special, and I would
#like to both identify its model number/name and get an estimate of its
#production year.
#
#The gun looks like a K-frame model with 6" barrel, but has no rib on
#the underside of the barrel. It looks identical to a K-22/Model 17.
#(Did they have a K-38 model?)
#
#I know on newer Smiths, the model number is imprinted on the frame and
#visible when you open the cylinder. On this one, in that spot there
#are the following imprints
#
#Kr (might be "Ro")
#1 93 4
# 5
#
#On the arm that holds the cylinder, there is the imprint "1934"
#
#Left side of barrel says "Smith & Wesson"
#Right side says ".38 S&W.Special Ctg"
#Serial number on cylinder and barrel match. They are "145xxx". I don't
#see a SN on the frame
#
#Right side frame has the standard S&W logo, but below and in front of
#the cylinder is:
#
#Made in USA
#Marcas Registradas
#Smith & Wesson
#Springfield, Mass
#
#The gun has target stocks, a target trigger, and is a sweet shooter.
#Now I would love to know a little about its actual model name and year
#of production (1934?). Any help would be appreciated.
#
It sounds like an early Military & Police target version, IF the
145xxx is the actual serial #. The "for sure" serial number is on the
bottom of the grip frame, underneath the grips.

Yes there is a K-38 that sounds like your gun which later became the
Model 14 target model.

How many screws hold the sideplate on?
