Cardboard boxes are the *bomb*, Kenni! The only exceptions to your advice
that I would add are two: a circular play toy with a ball that can't come
out of the groove (ooh, watch that ball go around!) and a very sturdy
scratch post with hidey holes that we splurged on a couple of years ago.
Other than that, whatever comes into the house generates 'Oh, for *me*?'
Love our cat......

We have some wire frame nylon cubes that have holes in 3 sides and
streamers hanging down from the top in the center. They fold up like
the sun shades for the car. They have Velcro tabs on 4 sides of each
hole so you can Velcro two holes (thus cubes) together. The pair were
getting too big to go in the milk cartons that hold 2 gallons... they
did not hold 2 cats at a time. We now have 4 cubes hooked together in
a zigzag pattern.
Our male will go nuts run across the room full tilt in the first
around the corner into the second out the other end then dive under.
He tried to climb on top one night and found they collapse under cat
weight.
The 'twins' play hide and seek in the cubes. They also go in for a
little quiet time out of sight.
