This is the best idea, I agree...but man, updating the dashboards/tools

And before the original poster protests, I use a Mac too. Big helpful
Mac advice: the FTP server in the Evox dashboard is crap. (And the
telnet server is crap squared.) The only thing I can get to work
semi-reliably with it is Fetch. The FTP server in dvd2xbox is somewhat
better.
I've heard it can be quite a chore to get it to work with the Mac. On
the other hand, burning emus with the Mac is actually easier(via Toast)
than it is on the PC with Roxio, Nero, etc.
Burn? What is this "burn" you speak of? Ah, you refer to the primitive
practice of putting data on a plastic disc to transfer from one computer
to another. Also called "sneakernet". The only things I had to burn were
the initial install discs, and I burned those to CD-R as a regular
ISO-9660 volume.
The Xbox isn't just the first console to come standard with a hard
drive, it's also the first console to come standard with 100-baseT. FTP
plus the xbiso extractor utility is all that I need to install
downloads. <http://sourceforge.net/projects/xbiso/>
And Toast has problems because its "automatic" ISO recognition screws
things up with rips unless you go out of your way to manually tell it
not to screw things up. Every. Time. You. Burn. Something.
